Kota Rajasthan, a city of one million people,
Only 54.2% of women are literate
87% are unemployed,
32% of the total population still lives in slums.
…and it’s only going worse
The leading reason behind that is the state education system which lacks the key skills required to gain stable employment in future or seek higher education. The system is highly underfunded. Last year (2019-20) Rs 7 crore was approved under the Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan for the same, which Rajasthan could not utilise at all. In fact, against an approved outlay of Rs 106 crore for the ‘gender and equity’ component in the programme (which comprises interventions such as the KGBV, self-defence training, girl’s empowerment project and sanitary pad vending machine etc.), only Rs 8 crore was utilised. Young girls from the BPL families in Rajasthan are at an even greater disadvantage due to the failure of such policies.
Kalpana will bridge the gap in provisions which are a hurdle in the girls reaching their full potential, personally and professionally. We have developed innovative skills development programs that will enhance our participants learning skills, aptitude for independent thinking and ability to generate self-employment.
All our programs are delivered in a modular fashion so that the learning is complete and comprehensive.
